Re: Original 1-wire Temp Sensor [ Read Responses | Post a New Response | Return to the Index ]
Posted by Phil on Saturday, 17 July 2010, at 9:11 p.m., I personally think that unless I absolutely needed to, I'd buy the pre-made sensors (sorry I just shipped your order). When I did the original installation instructions I only had the plastic encapsulated sensors. These work fine, but it turns out you still need to be careful about not putting them in a location that is subject to codensation. Too much wate ant they will still corrode inside (since there is an openning in the side for air.) Since then I've been able to obtain the small stainless steel sensors. These are even better because they are fully potted and unless you let the wire junctions themselves get wet, they are the best for copper pipes. If you want to epoxy stuff I'd definately recommend the Arctic Silver (or aluminum). These days, I personally just use some thermal grease on the sensors (available for CPU heat sinks) to ensure a good thermal bond, and then wrap the wires and sensor inside insulation.

This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project. |
