Ethan,
I engineer, design, and build solar and convection driven HVAC systems and zero energy buildings. All of the climatic regions in the USA are suitable for such systems.
Where are you? What are your goals?
The purpose of heat pump systems is when you need higher temperatures then you can conduct from the heat source.
You can build a solar thermal heat pump system for the same price as a geothermal system and have a much higher COP. Tell me what you are trying to do. By the way, no company manufactures a mass driven system because it is valves, tubing, ductwork, knowhow and experience. You are paying for the design and installation by someone who understands what they are doing. There is no school to teach people what I do, and very few of us are out there!
