Re: Scoring Stained Concrete [ Read Responses | Post a New Response | Return to the Index ]
Posted by Corley Wooldridge on Wednesday, 16 June 2010, at 8:35 p.m., Hi, We recently stained all the floors in our new home with acid etch stain. We first tried to use a 1/4" wide tape found in the sewing section of large stores, but it didn't work well at all. It was very similar to masking tape, and was not water proof, so it lifted when soaked. Then, we ran into some 1/4" wide rolls of tape in the florist / flower arranging section at WalMart, that is water proof, and very similar to duct tape, but very narrow. It worked like a charm, with nice crisp lines, and hardly any escapes at all. It's the 1/4" wide green stuff that florists use to tie flower arrangments together, where it might be under water. I also bolted a roller bearing to the end of a rod so that I could roll along the tape and make sure it was secured really well. Our lines are super crisp, with no cutting of concrete. Responses

This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project. |
