Re: A Request - 1 Wire Network [ Read Responses | Post a New Response | Return to the Index ]
Posted by Bill - WEL0043 on Sunday, 23 May 2010, at 12:00 a.m., Bill, here are my comments / suggestions. Once you get beyond a handful number of 1-wire devices on your 1-wire network, the quality of your 1-wire network will substantially affect reliability of being able to read every sensor every time. In my case I have a lot of sensors, and thus did a number of things to ensure highest quality 1-wire network possible, including: 1.) I used CAT 5 cable exclusively (with no mixing of 5e, 6, etc.). 2.) I studied this document:
3.) Noting the above document, I made my 1-wire network 'linear' with little exception (requires a lot more cable). 4.) I used wire nuts for every sensor connection to the cable, to ensure ultra-reliable connections. 5.) I do not have any outdoor cabling (concerned about deterioration, static charge, and grounding challenges) I had learned with another 1-wire interfacing product how difficult reliability can be. When I installed my WEL, I was thus very careful to do everything above to ensure max reliability. So far remain problem free. Hope this helps. Best regards, Bill Responses

This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project. |
