Posted by Robert Gammon on Tuesday, 29 July 2008, at 11:28 a.m., I too am encouraged by your comments. One size does not fit all, a house that is well designed for the climatic conditions of Montana is ill suited for the climatic challenges of the Mobile. I agree with your comments on the system design. The correct approach seems to be to acknowledge the local climatic conditions, and design the systems of the house to deal with that climate and hopefully achieve off-grid conditions. The solutions will vary with designer, will vary with local climatic conditions, and with the budget of the homeowner.
This site is all about building a cool, energy efficient house, that makes maximum use of earth sheltered design, passive solar heating and cooling, geothermal exchange energy management, and right sizing of the house for it's designated use. The home's placement is on a south-facing hillside in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. This site describes the design process, the technologies used and the expected results. We also have a comprehensive Links Page for anyone who is also interested in designing a similar project. |
